I was born in Klerksdorp on 19 December 1962. I went to school at La Hoff primary school, Three Rivers, Renosterspruit, Saamtrek and Klerksdorp High School (KHS). Since my early childhood I had the desire to draw and started sketching everything around me in pencil, pen, crayon, coloured pencils and anything I could get a hold of. In the beginning it was simple stick figures, clouds and trees like any other toddler and as time moved on I began to develop my talents further and lived out my passion for art.

After school I entered the corporate environment and so far I have had managerial jobs that required most of my time and dedication. After hours I had classes with Bob Mckenzie,

Christopher Reid and Mariette Marais whom is currently my mentor. Sadly, my spouse recently passed away and I also became part of the unemployment statistics late last year when I became part of a cost-saving strategy and as a consequence staff reduction. I am currently painting full-time and have a love for nature, outdoors and focus on landscapes, just finished my 3rd portrait and are proud of the pastel results.

I like oil as a medium but I am currently experimenting with soft pastels. My artworks are very realistic at the moment but would like to begin to work more impressionistically. The love in my life is Ilse de Korte whom is my greatest inspiration, she encourages and supports me and is certainly my greatest admirer.

Justice Wander

Justice Wander is an aspiring new artist, born in the town of Klerksdorp, South Africa in 1994. After matriculating from Klerksdorp High in 2012, Justice moved to Potchefstroom where he later obtained a degree in Bachelor of Arts. Whilst studying at the North West University, Justice became an active member in the local art scene, before moving back to Klerksdorp where he did his internship at Klerksdorp Museum (2018) whilst working on his career as artist.

As an intern Justice provided class lessons to local individuals and parolees interested in drawing, every Tuesday and Wednesday, where he taught abstract lessons to inmates at Correctional Services.

Justice’s lifelong fascination with art and artist has honed his desire to become a professional artist himself. Justice recalls the spark of his keen interest in portraiture when first drawing a classmate, Lexi, in Primary School. Justice was encouraged to continue drawing and did so, accepting commissions by insistent classmates in exchange for spending money.

Today, Justice primarily works in graphite and charcoal but is also expanding his experimentation with mixed media. His inspirations and influences are extensive:

Whilst movements such as 20th century realism, surrealism and postmodern hyperrealism may have directed his technique to some degree, inspirations such as the fantastical characters in contemporary pop-culture, music and personal narrative have contributed to a different aesthetic. His work is a documentation of personal experience and an address on the contemporary condition.

Suzette du Toit

I am a music teacher from Viljoenskroon. I’ve always loved painting and started painting more seriously since 2009. My husband was the famous painter and scholar of life, Duggie du Toit whom sadly recently passed away. My husband was an inspiration and I try to keep his spirit alive through my own paintings. I love oil paint and consider it as my preferred medium. I have always believed that painting is better than 10 sessions with your therapist!

Art for me started when I had an art class at held by my teacher, Thea de Beer. She encouraged me to take art as a subject, and ever since then it took priority. At first it started as a hobby, then a holiday job and now I paint full time from my studio in Klerksdorp.

I was trained as a THED Preschool/ Junior grades teacher with Arts as a Semi Specialising subject. During being a teacher I had the opportunity to do many decor work for concerts and Revue. I have loved art since my childhood and took every opportunity to broaden my knowledge of the subject. During and after my teaching years I gave classes in art for children and adults. Since 2007 I really started to market my artwork in our neighboring towns.

I once exhibited at Aardklop and some of my works were displayed on Pasella. The painting displayed on Pasella was sold, and I received orders for two additional paintings because of Pasella.

I have always had a passion for art, which inspires me is all the techniques that can be applied to portray my inner emotions. When I pick up a paintbrush, a whole other world opens up before me. I can show what I feel and what I see from my point of view.

Slegs op inspirasie… slegs uit verkore tye…
gryp ek na die kwas
besluit op musiek kers wierook en wyn…
sit ek en skilder
dit wat my hand doodle en vertel…
wat my siel op daardie oomblik ontbloot

Only on inspiration … only from chosen times …
I grab the brush
decide on music candle incense and wine …
I sit and paint
that which my hand doodles and tells …
exposing my soul at that moment

“Art is an outlet for me, a way to express myself with colour and composition. I like to use various other elements to enhance my art, like creating my own frames from old left over woods etc. Tuscan art was my inspiration but these days I love creating modern art as well.

I love the world of art and like learning from my fellow artists as well. I aspire to bring the same joy I have creating my art to those who admire the art industry.”
