Welcome to The B Gallery

What began as a vision to create a space where artists could be seen, supported, and celebrated has grown into a growing platform for contemporary art and creative exchange. From our beginnings in Klerksdorp, The B Gallery has always been about more than displaying art on walls. It is about creating opportunities, building relationships, and giving artists a place where their voices and ideas can be experienced by a wider audience.

Our journey has been shaped by a belief that art has the power to connect people, cultures, and communities. We are committed to bringing attention to artists whose work speaks to the world around us, while creating meaningful opportunities for their work to reach new audiences, collectors, and institutions.

At the heart of The B Gallery are the people who make the art world meaningful — the artists who share their stories and perspectives, the collectors who choose to live with and support their work, and the audiences who discover something personal in each piece. Every artwork carries a story, and every person who encounters it brings their own experience to that story.

As the gallery continues to grow, our purpose remains the same: to create a welcoming space for artists and art lovers, to support the development of contemporary art, and to build lasting connections between Southern African artists and audiences both locally and internationally.

From a vision that began in Klerksdorp to a platform reaching beyond its original home, The B Gallery continues to grow through collaboration, curiosity, and a shared belief in the value of art. We look forward to creating new exhibitions, discovering new voices, welcoming new collectors, and building the next chapter of our story together.

THE BATTLE OF THE ARTISTS

With the clock running, Marrak Potgieter, André Austin and Silumko Jas approached the same subject from three distinctly different artistic perspectives. What emerged on their canvases was not simply three portraits, but three interpretations of the same face.

The audience watched every brushstroke, decision and change in direction unfold in real time. Wine, food and conversation added to the atmosphere, but it was the creative tension between the artists that held the room.

At the end of the session, the decision was placed firmly in the hands of the audience.

Their votes gave Potgieter the evening’s winning position, recognising his portrait of Coetzee and earning him the cash prize sponsored by B Sure.

Yet the evening was about more than determining a winner. It offered a rare glimpse into the artistic process itself — the uncertainty, concentration and split-second decisions normally hidden behind the finished artwork.
