Red Carpet Welcome for RSG's Kultuurkaravaan in Klerksdorp
Klerksdorp rolled out the red carpet on Monday, 21 September, as the RSG Kultuurkaravaan made its final stop of the tour — chosen from over 200 entries as one of only six towns nationwide to host the radio caravan. The honour, announced the previous Friday, was driven by local artist and writer Sandy Schoeman, whose dedication to showcasing her hometown paid off. In the weeks prior, the RSG team visited local spots including the North West School of Design, Verdant on Ian Street, Nando’s, Solid Ground, and JD5.
On the day, community voices took to the mic: editor Salomé Kotze on the town’s pulse, JD5 Huiskombuis and Solid Ground on the local food scene, and Zet Havenga of The B Gallery alongside writer Stefaans Coetzee representing the arts. Marlene Oosthuizen of the North West School of Design spoke on local talent and fashion, while sprinter Erich Wiese and photographer Oupa Coetzee shared their own stories.
Kotze summed up the day as proof of the community spirit shared among the hundreds of towns that entered — with Klerksdorp showing it has stories worth telling, marked by hospitality and excellence.
